As a Camp Riverbend counselor, you'll have the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of young campers while gaining valuable skills and experiences. You'll build leadership and teamwork abilities, while also developing a sense of responsibility and independence. We promise you will also have tons of fun and make friends!

Camp Riverbend is a place where all our campers can be themselves, explore the world and learn new skills in a fun and supportive environment. We also work hard to give each of our counselors opportunities to grow as both individuals and leaders, while building their resumé in a fun, outdoor environment. Trust us, it's better than an internship.

Roles at Riverbend

You will spend your summer at Camp Riverbend working outdoors and doing all kinds of fun camp activities–swimming, boating, crafts, sports, cooking and lots more! At the same time, you’ll be developing the skills and experience that will enable you to build your present or future career. And you can make a positive difference in the life of your campers!

Group Head Counselors

Educators and college students with past camp experience. Group head counselors work with one group of children all summer and help to guide their co-counselor with the help of a division head (aka Camp assistant principals). Group head counselors help out at activities but are not responsible for communicating with families or planning activities.

Group
Co-Counselors

Rising high school seniors and current college students. Group co-counselors work with one group of children all summer. Group co-counselors assist activity instructors and help with group responsibilities while taking the lead from their group head counselor.

Specialist
Counselors

Specialist Counselors teach specific skills to campers. Some of our activities are arts & crafts, ceramics, woodworking, baseball, canoeing, cooking, drama, team building and soccer. Some positions (canoeing, archery) also require that the instructor have, or be willing to earn, special certifications. We'll pay the fee to enroll you in a course to earn the required certification and pay you for your time in the course.

Ropes
Counselors

The Ropes team is made up of a group of interested climbers. There are two ziplines, a three-sided climbing tower, leap of faith, giant swing, vertical obstacle course, and more! We'll pay the course fee and pay you for your time in the course.

Lifeguards

Lifeguards teach small group swimming lessons every morning and rotate lifeguard stations every afternoon. Applicants must have a Lifeguard certification or be willing and able to earn the required certifications before Camp begins. We'll pay the course fee and pay you for your time in the course.

Photo Team

Takes photos of campers every day to share with their parents on Riverbend app. Stong interest in photography and experience with DSLR a plus. Active outdoor position.

Dates & Logistics

Camp Riverbend's 2025 dates are Monday, June 30 through Friday, August 15. Camp is closed Friday, July 4.

Training for counselors takes place June 18, 20, 21 and 22, 2025. All counselors should be present for both training and the 7-week Camp season.

There are multiple perfect attendance bonuses available for all counselors. These are broken up into chunks of the summer so that if you miss part of the day one week, you can still earn multiple bonuses throughout the summer. (Did we mention this is extra $$ in your pay check?)

While some counselors drive themselves or carpool with others to and from Camp each day, many counselors come to Camp on a Camp bus as a bus counselor (supervising campers on the bus, taking attendance, etc). Bus counselors receive extra pay for doing these jobs, on top of their regular counselor salary.

We are unable to provide any lodging for counselors. To those from out-of-state we recommend finding accommodation within about 20 miles of Camp.
