Pay
Staff are paid every two weeks
You can earn bonuses for good attendance, referring other staff members, and more!
Your salary at Camp Riverbend will depend on your experience. Rising high school seniors start at $14 per hour, college graduates start at $17 per hour. Pay for experienced teachers and those with necessary certifications is higher.
Tech Policy
Staff can use their phones during their break times
We are a zero tech camp, so campers do not have devices during Camp
Your contact information is never given out without your express permission, our administrators handle the communication with families so that you can focus on your campers and having fun.
Day in the Life
Staff arrive (and are paid) starting at 8:30 to “settle in.”
Buses of campers start arriving around 9:45.
We start every morning with a whole Camp assembly at 9:00 for group staff and their campers. Activity, Ropes and Waterfront counselors are at their stations, preparing for their day’s lessons.
There are four morning activity periods, then lunch and club time, then four afternoon activity periods. We end every afternoon with a camp-wide assembly. Staff who drive themselves are dismissed after the camper buses depart at 4:00.
Experience
Even if you’ve never worked at a camp before, we welcome you to Riverbend! Many of our staff are first timers, whether they be high school seniors, college students or experienced teachers. Even if you have never been a camper before, we highly encourage you to apply.
We value a wide variety of experiences and backgrounds and always love to welcome new members to our community.
Our group leaders coach and guide new and returning staff members throughout the summer.
Counselor Training
Orientation is a big part of Camp Riverbend’s staff experience and a whole lot of fun! During June 18-22, 2025, we will create our summer community, learn how to work together, and prepare to give our campers the best summer ever.
It’s fun but it’s serious work too. You’ll be getting a lot of information about Camp policies and procedures, as well as tips for working with children. Attendance at Orientation is required for all staff members.
Additional training, feedback, and coaching occurs throughout the summer. Our Owners/Directors are very hands-on, and our veteran senior staff closely supervise their counselors, groups, and activities.
College Credits
Camp Riverbend is proud to offer all of its counselors the opportunity to earn college credits this summer through Gratz College. The 3 credit education course is titled “The Fundamentals of Informal Education in a Summer Camp Setting” and everyone from high school students to college graduates are eligible.
Riverbend will even cover part of the tuition for all of its staff (in addition to your salary!) The standard tuition is $750 for enrollment but Riverbend will cover at least $250 of the enrollment fee for each staff member.
